About the Journal

AIM AND SCOPE

The purpose of the journal is the creation of a multifaceted forum for an exchange of scientific opinions. Another goal is making the achievements in the field of literary and interdisciplinary studies known to a wider public. Conversatoria Litteraria is an annual journal of international scope. The journal has been published continuously since 2008. Its main field is Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies, which is closely connected with the history and theory of literature as well as religion and philosophy (including the philosophy of language). Such a scope of literary inquiry allows for a wide range of research within the context of other scientific disciplines, both in the humanities (cultural studies, religion, philosophy, history, visual arts), and in related fields (social studies, psychology, film and theatre studies, music, etc.). This aspect of the journal makes it possible to address wide readership. Owing to this multifaceted perspective the published articles often contain innovative approaches to literature, thus making an essential contribution to the field of literary studies and related disciplines. Co-published by Matej Bel University (Banská Bystrica, Slovak Republic) since 2009, the journal focuses also on Slavic folklore (https://www.ff.umb.sk/katedry/katedra-slovenskej-literatury-a-literarnej-vedy/casopis-conversatoria-litteraria-12027/). The journal’s structure takes into consideration both methodological and substantive aspects of research. The journal is published in Slavonic languages, English, as well as German.

PUBLISHING ETHICS:

In the interest of the highest quality of published scientific articles, the Editorial Board of the journal "Conversatoria Litteraria" adheres to the ethical principles and procedures recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). These standards set the final and indisputable rules governing the process of reviewing and editing submitted scientific texts.

AUTHORS AND THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Authorship

Authorship should be limited to people who have made a significant contribution to the creation of the publication -- the concept and implementation of research, interpretation of research results. The editorial staff of the journal applies rules that limit the occurrence of ghostwriting and guest authorship, which are a manifestation of scientific misconduct. Authors are obliged to indicate the contribution of individual persons to the creation of the text. For this purpose, they submit a statement available on the publishing house's website.

2. Disclosure and conflict of interest

It is the Author's responsibility to disclose the sources of funding for projects mentioned in the article, contribution of research institutions, foundations, associations or other entities. The Author is also obliged to indicate important premises that may lead to a conflict of interests.

3. Submission standards

The articles submitted for publication should be original academic papers which do not violate the copyright of any interested parties. They cannot be previously published or submitted for publication in other journals. The Author should not submit for publication any material which repeats the already published data. Submitting the same work to more than one journal simultaneously as well as submitting a translation of the existing article is treated by the Editorial Board as unethical.

4. Data access and storage

The Author should be ready to provide access to the unprocessed data related to the submitted text. Moreover, the Author should keep the data for one year from the moment of publication.

5. Errors found after submission or publication

If the author(s) discovers significant errors or inaccuracies in their texts after submission or publication, they are obliged to notify the Editor of the journal immediately in order to withdraw the text or correct the errors that have occurred.

6. Copyright and plagiarism

The Authors may submit only their own original texts for publication. Research and/or information of other scientists used in the publication should be marked in a way indicating that it is a quotation. The Editorial Board finds it inadmissible to use unethical procedures, such as plagiarism (auto-plagiarism included), ghost-writing or guest-authorship. Their detection will result in the article’s rejection.

 

EDITORIAL BOARD AND ITS RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Responsibility for the published texts

The Editorial Board is obliged to comply with the current legal status in the field of defamation, infringement of copyright and plagiarism. The Editorial Board is responsible for the decisions taken regarding the submitted articles. First, submissions are evaluated by the Section Editor, who then sends them further to the Editor-in-Chief. If the article meets the requirements and corresponds to the journal's profile, the Editor-in-Chief refers the articles for reviews. This decision is made also taking into account the risk of copyright infringement, plagiarism, self-plagiarism and doubts regarding the authorship or co-authorship of the article.

2. Fair play

The Article shall be assessed according to the criteria of originality, quality, and compatibility with the journal’s scope. The Editorial Board recognizes the principal of fair play: race, gender, religion, origin, citizenship or political beliefs of the authors in no way influence the evaluation of articles.

3. Confidentiality

The Editorial Board shall not disclose any information about papers submitted for publication to unauthorized persons. The persons authorized to have this information are the author, designated reviewers, members of the Editorial Board, editors, and the publisher.

4. Avoiding the conflict of interests

The Editorial Board shall not assign papers for review to reviewers who are subordinate to or remain in any other personal relations with the authors.

5. Anti-plagiarism policy

In the case of suspicion of fraudulent practices (plagiarism, falsification of research results), the Editorial Board are obliged to reject the article and inform its author about the decision. In case the Author does not provide a disclaimer, the Editorial Board has a duty to inform about it the institution the Author is affiliated with. In case of self-plagiarism, the Editorial Board is obliged to reject the paper due to the lack of originality.

6. Withdrawal of the text

Editors have the right to withdraw a text after publication if:

 - there is evidence of unreliability of study results and/or fabrication of data, as well as if unintentional errors have been made;

- the research results have been previously published elsewhere;

- the paper shows signs of plagiarism or violates the rules of publishing ethics.

A notice of withdrawal of the text should be treated as equivalent to withdrawal of the article. This notice should include information about the author (the heading should include at least the title of the paper and the name(s) of the author(s) of the paper) and the reasons for the withdrawal of the text Unintentional errors should be distinguished from deliberate misuse, determining the withdrawal of the text. Withdrawn texts are not removed from the published version of the journal, but the fact of their withdrawal should be clearly marked.

In case of two negative reviews, the Editor-in-Chief shall decide not to qualify the article for publication. In the case of one negative review, the Editor-in-Chief shall decide to publish the article after the author has taken into account the reviewer's comments and suggestions.

 

REVIEWERS AND THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Timeliness

A reviewer who is unable to review the paper at all or within the prescribed period should immediately inform the editorial office about it.

2. Objectivity

Reviews should be done objectively, in accordance with ethical standards, based on scientific arguments. The aim is to increase the scientific value of the text. Personal criticism of the author is unacceptable.

3. Confidentiality

All peer-reviewed papers are treated as confidential documents. They may not be shown to others or discussed outside the Editorial Board, nor may authors' works be used for personal gain by the reviewer.

4. Anonymity

All reviews are double-blind. The Editorial Board under no circumstances shall disclose authors’ personal data to the reviewers.

5. Conflict  of intrest

A reviewer should not review papers where there is a conflict of interest arising from a relationship with the author, company or institution with which he or she has a work or personal relationship.

6. Verification of originality

The reviewer is obliged to inform the editorial secretary of violations of ethical standards by the author of the text. This particularly applies to significant similarity, partial correspondence of the content of the reviewed work with any other work published and known to the reviewer.

 

REVIEWING

Basic requirements for the submitted articles:

  • The “Conversatoria Litteraria” publishes original articles, review articles, reviews, and reports.
  • The papers submitted for publication cannot be previously published or be considered for publication in other journals.
  • The papers submitted for publication have to be prepared according to Technical Requirements of the journal.
  • The papers submitted for publication are judged on the basis of their originality, novelty of research, and compatibility of the journal’s scope.
  • The papers submitted for publication should contain all the necessary data about the Author or the main Author in case of group submissions (affiliation, address, telephone number, email).
  • The papers submitted for publication should be accompanied by a signed copy of The Author’s Declaration Form.


The Review Procedure:

  1. The list of reviewers is in the public domain available at the journal’s website.
  2. The papers submitted for publication are reviewed by two independent reviewers.
  3. The papers submitted for publication go through a "double-blind review process", which guarantees confidentiality of the Author and Reviewers.
  4. Reviewers pass their review sheets to the Editorial Board by email, post or directly.
  5. The final decision about the publication is made by Editor-in-Chief.

OPEN ACCESS POLICY

This is an open access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author.  The journal publishes  articles under the Creative Commons licence CC BY-ND 4.0
